Stephen Lynn Reed

Stephen L. Reed, 70, of Eau Claire, passed away May 4, 2023 at University of Chicago Medical Center. Steve was born July 10, 1952, in Benton Harbor to Leonard and Audrey (Williams) Reed.

Visitation will be from 6–8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire, and messages may be shared at www.bowermanfuneral.com. Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to Berrien County Animal Control.

Steve graduated from Benton Harbor High School Class of 1972. He was very active in the community, first as a camp lifeguard for handicapped camping at Camp Warren, Camp Leo, Y Uncles, Blossomtime and Venetian Festivals. Steve was a foster parent, teaching assistant and behavioral specialist for Spectrum Service and BCISD, North Lincoln School. He also was a business owner, owning Rampart Ambulance and several rentals where his tenants were like family!

On Oct. 28, 1995, he married May Schultz-Reed, and they shared 27 years of marriage. In 1974, Steve met May while she was working as a waitress at Big Boy, and he was a paramedic (one of the first in the State of Michigan). Steve enjoyed woodworking, swimming, gardening, working with people and training dogs.

Steve will be greatly missed by his wife, May; brother, Jack (Lupita) Reed of Phoenix; brothers-in-law, L. Michael and Charles Schultz; nieces: Megan and Kaitlin Reed, Allison (Adam) Snyder, Amanda (Joe) Chappell, Amy (Jared) Moscardelli; nephews, Maxx and Seth Schultz; great-nieces, Aria and Selwyn; great-nephews: Weston, Tucker and Ethan; furry friends: Bella, Gunner and Zeke, Kitty and the chickens; and special friends: Val Sila, Rod and Beth Prillwitz.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Phillip; in-laws, Robert and Jane Hollacher.
