Carol Ann Halgren, a beacon of love and wisdom, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, in St. Joseph, MI, at the age of 79. Born on September 23, 1944, in Kalamazoo, MI, Carol was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and educator whose warmth and intelligence touched the lives of many.

Carol's early years were spent in the nurturing care of her parents, Grant Baxter and Virginia Clemens Baxter, who instilled in her a lifelong love of learning and community service. She was a proud alumna of Western Michigan University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in education, setting the stage for a fulfilling career as a college-level teacher. Carol's passion for education was evident in her dedication to her students and her constant pursuit of knowledge.

In her personal life, Carol was a devoted partner to her late husband, Robert Halgren, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Their marriage took place on April 22, 1967, in Kalamazoo, MI. Together, they built a family founded on the principles of kindness, respect, and intellectual curiosity. Carol's legacy lives on through her four children: Robert Halgren (Michelle), David Halgren (Denise), James Halgren, and Virginia Schumm (Bill), who continue to embody the values she cherished.

Carol's joy multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild and great-grandchild. She is lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren, Megan, Macey, Katrina, and Caroline Halgren, Grant, and Dayna Schumm, as well as her three great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Vincent, and Dane Boerman. Her gentle guidance and unwavering support were the cornerstones of countless family memories.

A lifelong member of Maple View Methodist Church, Carol's faith was a testament to her belief in service and community. Her involvement in the church provided her with a spiritual foundation that she shared generously with others.

Carol's interests and hobbies were a reflection of her multifaceted personality. She was a fixture at Camp Somerset for over 30 years, where she enjoyed the serenity of nature and the camaraderie of fellow campers. An avid reader, Carol could often be found with a book in hand, lost in the pages of a compelling story. Her love for crossword and logic puzzles was more than a pastime; it was a daily ritual that kept her mind sharp and engaged.

Carol's enthusiasm for cardio drumming was not only a testament to her vibrant spirit but also her commitment to health and wellness. Those who knew her admired her for her quiet strength, her intelligent conversations, and her thoughtful approach to life's challenges.

Described by those who loved her as loving, intelligent, and selfless, Carol's impact on the world was profound. She approached every aspect of her life with a servant's heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her selflessness was not just a trait but a way of life, one that inspired everyone she encountered.
