Eugene Wayne Akright

Eugene Akright, 90, of Eau Claire, passed away March 22, 2022, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

He was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Benton Harbor, the son of Elden and Eithel Akright. From 1952-1954, he served his country with the United States Army in Korea. He worked at Chardon Rubber for 44 years, and he also farmed, raising grapes.

He married Lois Franz almost 68 years ago, and they enjoyed traveling, dancing, old cars, and tractors. They had two sons, Mark (Bobbie) of Eau Claire, and Keith (Cathy) of Louisville, Ky.; a granddaughter, Krystal (Thomas) Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Maelyn and Mark.

Also surviving are his sister, Lorraine (Don) Hass, and sister-in-law, Virginia Skibbe, of Eau Claire. Many loved ones preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Sodus, where he was a member.
