Ivory Lee “Turkey” Davis, 64, passed peacefully at home in Benton Harbor on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and service at 12 noon on Monday, Aug, 23, at McCoy’s Memorial Church of God in Christ, 1840 Union Ave., Benton Harbor. Supt. Steven McCoy will officiate and burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Share memories at www.bowermanfuneral.com.
He was born to Earsie Lee Davis and Leonard Davis on Sept. 14, 1956 in Jonestown, Miss., the fifth of 10 children. As a child he moved with his family to Michigan and later resided in Chicago, but he lived the majority of his adult life in Benton Harbor.
Ivory attended Benton Harbor High School and worked at Michigan Standard Alloys for many years. He was very skilled in sports, especially swimming and boxing. He was also a very good dancer and was one of the original Soul Train Dancers when it started in Chicago.
He was always the life of the party, always laughing and playing with the kids. In his later life, he enjoyed watching television and eating. Sports, The Price Is Right, and Let’s Make A Deal were some of his favorite programs.
Ivory leaves to cherish his memory, his two daughters: Giovanna Prowell and Christina Beatrice Thomas; three grandchildren: Darsie King, Linda Clincy, Mia Thomas; two great-grandchildren: Sahja Gianna Smith and Garry Bernard Harris; his siblings: Lonnie (Angela) Davis, Vertilla Caldwell, Mercine Jackson and Earsie (Roger) Harden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ann Jackson; four brothers: Clyde, Leroy and Charles Jackson and Henry Davis; and brother-in-law, Frankie Lee Caldwell.
