Steve was born April 26, 1949 in Benton Harbor, the son of Leonard and Jane (Little) Frank. He was a fruit and vegetable farmer his whole life and was no stranger to hard work.
Steve had a lot of joys in his life and loved telling stories, playing poker, and laughing over a drink, much like his dad. Steve enjoyed hunting and going to Iowa with his friends for their annual hunting trip. He also liked to travel and journeyed to many places in his lifetime including Hong Kong, Alaska, Germany, the Cayman Islands, and the majority of the United States.
His children have fond memories of spending the summer with him and working on the family farm. He instilled a strong work ethic in all of his children.
Over the past few years, Steve battled Parkinson’s disease, and although it was not easy, he lived his life with dignity and a positive attitude. He will truly be missed by his family and the community.
He is survived by three sons: Jim Frank, Mark Layman Jr., Joel (Heidi) Layman; two daughters, Stephanie Joy (Dennis) Moore and Jennifer Frank Brenton; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and his sister, Carole (Jim) Sousa..
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Jane; and one brother, Rollin.
